In order to improve the internationalization of graduate programs, encourage innovative ability of the graduate students, and cultivate high-quality personnel with global vision, the School of Graduate Studies of Zhengzhou University (ZZU) launches the 2019 ZZU International Graduate Summer School Series! The project of “Translational Neuroscience and Neurology”, jointly sponsored by the First affiliated hospital of ZZU, will be held between July 22th to July 28th, 2019, at the No. 9 Building 5th floor lecture hall of First affiliated hospital west campus. The invited instructors are Professor Fudi Wang from Zhejiang University, Jinghua Yang from Boston University, distinguished special term professors of ZZU Jiansheng Kang and Zongping Xia. By bringing the high-quality academic resources from both China and abroad to Zhengzhou University, we hope to build a platform for international academic exchange, which will help the students and audiences to boost their understanding of the fundamentals, and improve their research skills and sense of innovation.
The 2019 Translational Neuroscience and Neurology Summer project plans to enroll 60 students. Prospective students/audiences of the project include master and PhD students (domestic and international, priority for students submit ZZU as the First choice) and faculty members in neuroscience and neurological and related disciplines. Considering the depth of the material covered, in general we do not accept applications of undergraduate students. Very excellent fourth year undergraduate students may contact the summer school coordinator to see if special arrangements can be made. Because the courses are taught in English/Bilingual, the students are required to be fluent in English. In principle, the students are required to have passed the CET-6 exam above IELTS 6.0、above TOEFL 85 and have the ability to communicate in English.

Professor Fudi Wang, Dr. Wang is Qiushi Chair Professor and Ph.D Director at the School of Public Health, Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, China. Dr. Wang holds several high profile national honors, including National High-level Personnel of Special Support Program, The Scholar for State Project of "Hundred, Thousand, and Ten Thousand Talents", Leading Talent Youth Investigator for The National Ministry of Science and Technology, National Distinguished Young Scientist from China National Nature Science Foundation and The Scholar of the Hundred Talents Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Special allowances granted by the State Council, chief scientist of the National Key R&D Program of China special project “Protein Machine and Regulation of Life Process”; the writing expert of Chinese academy of engineering health promotion project of “Research on the strategy of developing China into a powerful country within science and technology in one hundred years”; President of Microelements Branch of Chinese Society of Biophysics.

Professor Jinhua Yang, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Boston University，Directors of Surgical Oncology Research and Clinical Proteomics Laboratory, Boston VA Medical Center, now the distinguished special term professor of First affiliated hospital of ZZU. Dr. Yang won the honor of Chinese National Distinguished Young Scientist, took lessons from world famous molecular scientist Tom Maniatis and Nobel winner Richard Axel, firstly discovered A-to-I RNA editing and double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) editase. Dr. Yang accomplished Post-doc at Harvard Medical School and Harvard University, works in the fields of dsRNA editing theory and biological function. Dr. Yang has published several papers in Nature, Science, and PNAS as the first author.

康建胜，研究员、教授、研究生导师，2001年于中国科学院上海生物化学研究所获博士学位。2001年至2009年在麻省理工大学(MIT)学习记忆中心、美国国立卫生研究院(NIH)国立神经疾病及中风研究所(NINDS)先后进行了博士后研究工作。2009年受聘于中国科学院上海生命科学研究院营养科学研究所担任研究员和研究组长。2009年入选中国科学院“百人计划”获择优资助。2017年加入郑州大学第一附属医院，研究方向为能量代谢及相关疾病。相关工作以第一作者及通讯作者发表在Cell, Journal of Neurophysiology, Journal of Neuroscience, Protein & Cell, Biophysics Reports, Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy等杂志上。
Professor Jiansheng Kang, gained Ph.D at 2001 from Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences; accomplished Post-doc in Picower Center for Learning and Memory, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and National Neurological Disorder and Stroke (NINDS), National Institute of Health. Dr. Kang was employed in Institute for Nutritional Sciences, Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences as the Principal Investigator from 2009 to 2016 and, won the honor of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Hundred Talents Program). Dr. Kang joined the first affiliated hospital of ZZU as distinguished special term professor, studies in the field of energy metabolism and related diseases. Dr. Kang has published his work on Cell, Journal of Neurophysiology，Journal of Neuroscience Protein & Cell Biophysics Reports Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy as first or corresponding author.

Dr. Zongping Xia received his first degree from Wuhan University and his Ph.D. degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. His research interests have been focused on the biochemical mechanisms of inflammation and innate immunity and their roles in diseases, with special emphases on the regulation of inflammation by ubiquitination and phosphorylation, mechanism of aberrant inflammation in tumorigenesis and neurological diseases, and natural medicinal inhibitors of inflammation and tumorigenesis and their mode of actions.

Download and fill in the application form: see attachment 1 and 2 of this notice. A copy of the electronic version of the student ID card and ID card will be sent to the following email address by June 30, 2019:
Evaluation of the applications will be conducted by the School of Information Engineering of Zhengzhou University based on the application materials. Admitted students will be notified before the course starts. All admitted students/audiences are required to confirm attendance before July 20th, 2019. Admission will be denied if confirmation is not received on time.
Check-in place: No. 9 Building 5th floor lecture hall of First affiliated hospital west campus
According to the content of each lecture, the teacher arranges the assessment with class or after class. The examination form can be problem discussion, summary writing, etc., in order to highlight the actual mastery and application of the knowledge and skills learned by the students, the examination can be carried out flexibly, without specific mode restrictions. All students successfully completed the Summer School and passed the exam will receive a certificate.
Food and accommodation are only available for students who has the potential to guarantee graduate qualifications in other colleges and universities. We also subsidize transportation expenses for these students (train hard seat ticket or car ticket fee, students are required to provide round-trip ticket tickets).

2．暑期学校举办期间，要求学生全程遵守暑期学校相关规定。
During the summer school, the students are required to follow the ZZU Summer School regulations.
3．学员须具有健康的身体和良好的心理素质，如发生医疗费用及个人行为导致的意外事故由个人承担。
The students/audiences should be physically and mentally healthy when attending the Summer School. Zhengzhou University is not liable for any medical expenses due to personal reasons or accidents.
