College of Water Conservancy & Environmental Engineering ZZU

    The old name of Environment and water conservancy engineering college in Zhengzhou University was the department of water conservancy in Zhengzhou engineering college ,built in 1954. It was renamed the college of water conservancy and Environment after1986, when Environment engineering recruited undergraduate students. In 1996, Zhengzhou engineering college was renamed Zhengzhou engineering University, the college was renamed the college of water conservancy and Environment.The New Zhengzhou University came into existence on July 10,2000, and the college was renamed Environment and water conservancy. The college was consisted of  Water Conservancy, Environment and City Planning , Geography Information System, Transport Engineering, the synthetical Management Center with experiment and the synthetical Management Offices.

The college was has first class academics authorizations of doctor (master) degree on Water Conservancy and 9 second class academics authorizations, the water work structure, hydrology and water resources, the water conservancy and water electricity, hydraulics and river dynamics, the port coast and inshore engineering, environmental engineering, city Planning engineering, rock and soil engineering, road and the railroad engineering in separately, the water work structure and the rock and soil engineering is important subjects in Henan among them. Now has 4  especially retained professional post in HeNan now, the water work structure engineering, environmental engineering, rock and soil engineering, agrology and environment. The college still establishes the national foundational facilities examination and evaluation technique center (preparing to construct), 2 Henan point research organizations, road technique examination center and engineering material and water work structure point laboratory in Henan(prepare to construct) in separately. There are 14 research institutes, structure engineering,theories and the application technique of the structure dependability, Hydraulic power engineering, The hydraulics and river dynamics, The water resources and water conservancy economy, The city planning and environmental engineering, The water engineering anti- shake, The environment evaluate, the new compound material and structure, rock and soil engineering, geography information system engineering in separately. Besides, the college still establishes petrochemical environmental protection science and technology training center in Henan, fire fight and safe engineering center, environmental engineering center, the environment evaluation section office, the water conservancy and water electrician the distance design room, the city planning engineering design room, investigation and measurement section office etc, training and designing organization.

        Currently, the institute has an enrollment of 1695 undergraduate students and 3-year associate degree students, 257 postgraduate students, including 217 full-time graduate students and 40 on-the-job graduate students. The institute has the teaching and administrative staff 116 people, including 2 part-time scholars, 3 excellent professors of Henan province, 21 professors, 31 associate professors and senior engineers. There are 28 teachers obtain the doctorate degree , accounting for 45% of the professional teachers．At present the institute has 18 teachers in office to study for the doctorate, accounting for 22% of the professional teachers ，there are 7 Ph.D. tutors and 36 Masters Degree tutors.

        School of Environment and Water conservancy has a good learning atmosphere; students in the school have excellent achievement in study. many students have won the first second and the third prize of National English Contest for College Students, some of the students have gets the second and third prize of Mathematical Contest in Modeling, the second and third prize of nation GIS contest, and applied three patents; many students takes part in the entrance exams for postgraduate schools, and the ratio of it has been stay in ahead at our school, from 2003 to 2006, the ratio is 36%, 33%, 45%, 41% accordingly. Some of them have gotten into national key universities, such as Tsinghua University and PKU. Therefore, we have won the advanced collective title of “college students’ knowledge contest and creation effort” in Zhengzhou University in the year of 2005 and 2006.

        At present, the school not only has pretty good installation for teaching and scientific research, but also possesses many testing equipment with advanced international standards, such as FWD and GPR. Now, the school has formed distinct domain in many knowledge aspects: “highway nondestructive examination and assess technology”, “new type concrete material and structure theory & application”, “water resources system program management”,” power station unsteady transition”, ”water pollution controlling theory and technology”, for instance. For the late five years, the school has carried out the many research programs funded by both the provincial and the state government. The research outlay amounts to over 20 million RMB, and sixteen of the researches have attained the awards of state or provincial level. Two projects have won the nation’s science and technology progress rewards, twenty-two researches have won the provincial’s. More than 30 teaching materials and monographs were published, and one state criterion was edited. Over three hundred papers were published in many science magazines, 36 of them were embodied by EI SCI or ISTP.
